Why it matters for skiing

This drill trains two things skiing constantly demands: horizontal power production and single-leg deceleration/landing control. Every turn transition, every bump absorption, every recovery from an off-balance moment requires you to redirect momentum and stabilize on one leg (or one dominant leg) under load. Training the jump and the stuck landing builds the eccentric strength and proprioception that prevents knee injuries and lets you confidently handle variable terrain, drops, and quick direction changes on the mountain.

How to do it

  1. 1+Start standing, feet hip-width apart.
  2. 2+Load by bending your knees and swinging your arms back, then explosively jump forward as far as you can, driving arms forward.
  3. 3+ In the air, prepare to land on one leg.
  4. 4+ Land softly, absorbing through the hip, knee, and ankle, and stick the landing — hold it for 1–2 seconds before resetting.
  5. 5+ Perform 3–5 reps per side, resting fully between reps (this is a power/quality movement, not a conditioning one).
